Common problems and knowledge about zippers

Apr 19,2024 BSL

1. Contrast color zipper: The fabric and zipper tape are inconsistent, such as white fabric with black or red zipper tape. When placing an order, be sure to specify that the color fastness must be good, and the zipper must be tested and confirmed before sewing before it can be put into mass production.

2. Zipper migration: Due to the use of dyed brown zippers or black zippers, contamination will occur at the contact area between the clothing material and the zipper. During the dyeing process of clothing, residual acidic substances or oxidants may undergo chemical reactions, which may cause contamination at the contact areas between the zipper and clothing. Please use fully washed fabrics and materials.

3. Discoloration of the zipper: The teeth of the metal zipper turn black and the discolored teeth will pollute the clothing. Once the copper alloy is oxidized, it will turn black... Do not seal the packaging bag, keep it breathable, and be careful not to be full of moisture. Use moisture-proof paper and moisture-proof agents for better results.

4. 8#, 10# resin, metal pull tabs, or larger pull tabs, round pull tabs do not have a good needle inspection effect. On the one hand, it is due to its large size, and on the other hand, the circular pull tab will generate a magnetic field when testing the needle, which will affect the effect of the needle test.

Nylon zippers

5. Nylon zippers: used for PVC fabrics or waterproof/ski fabrics (light colors). Please note that the fabric will absorb oil stains in the zipper and cause stains on the fabric. When receiving similar orders, please indicate when placing the order: To proceed The zipper oil output rate is controlled and tested before being put into production.

6. Zipper dye migration: The dye on the zipper may react with plasticizers, joints, oils and other ingredients in polyethylene, synthetic leather, resin coatings of fabrics, etc., and dye migration occurs, and the finished products must be Separated with paper and pay attention to the preservation status.

7. Cotton with metal zippers: garments are prone to discoloration after dyeing. The teeth, separate parts, sliders, and top stops will undergo chemical reactions after acidic/alkaline dyeing, resulting in discoloration. At present, zipper factories can only add films to metal parts such as sliders and teeth (which is paid), but they cannot completely guarantee that the zippers will not react chemically. Please make a sample and test it first to confirm that the zipper is suitable for the garment manufacturing process before purchasing in bulk.
